Soul Reaver is the second game in the Legacy of Kain series and delivers an excellent sequel, elevating this series to must-play status.
I have been playing through Soul Reaver for the last few days and it is definitely a great game. I cannot say that it is strictly better than the original, though, because they are completely different types of games!
I have no idea what it is about the story or the way it's told, but i love it. I like the narrative and the commentary supplied by the main character, Raziel. He doesn't have the same attitude as Kain did, so his commentary is different, somewhat less gritty or cynical, more mystified by the passage of time and its effects.
The music and great, the graphics were probably excellent for the ps1 days, and the voice acting is top notch. I just got the swimming ability and i suddently see a lot more of Lara Croft in Raziel's movements, although it was there all along and I just didn't notice it previously. Also along for the ride are plenty of box-pushing and platform-jumping puzzles. This game adds a new twist, though, allowing you to shift between the material world and the twisted spectral world. They use this in a number of puzzles and I have to say that this is quite well executed.
