This is a pretty slick beat 'em up game with some nice effects, but light on the overall combat depth so far.
The game opened with an awesome sequence. As soon as it came on, with no warning, I was dropped into an alley and had to fight some bad guys. I hacked them apart with button-mashing, since I have never played before. After some time, the game stopped and started replaying what I had just done, but with the title and intro credits/music as an overlay. This was done to great effect and I was instantly hooked by this little touch!
Unlike some other games like this (I am thinking Ninja Gaiden), the combat does not seem to be too in-depth. I have a few combos, but mostly I just hop and slash using auto-combos by repeatedly mashing the square button to chain moves. It all looks cool and I got a low rating at the end of the first stage for combo count, so I imagine there is more to it than I am getting right now, perhaps some hidden depth or secrets to chain huge combos.
One particularly interesting feature is Lao's (that's the main character's name) ability to wall-run and wall-jump everywhere. Actually, he has quite a large repertoire of aerial moves and maneuvers, allowing you to pull off some spectacular jumping sequences.
