Excellent graphics, animations, effects, and, of course, great story-telling make Soul Reaver 2 an all around solid title.

It has been a while since I played the first Soul Reaver, so I was elated to find the complete back story, intro movies, etc... from the previous installment. The whole suite of special features is nicely done in this game and deserves mention right up front.

As is typical for this franchise, the story is excellent. You continue in the role of Raziel, in search of vengeance and the truth. As he says, you are "...beset on all sides by manipulation" and it is hard to know who is telling you the truth about anything. Early on I have already run into the major players, Kain, Moebius, Vorador, and the ancient god who helped Raziel in the previous game.

The combat has some nice touches. Different weapons have different strengths and also different fatalities. Killing foes provides some great animation sequences, making different weapons fun and various enemies more entertaining to watch when they die.

The particle effects are also very nice. They have quite a few different effects and combine them in interesting ways to make the game really stand out.
