Solid gameplay, intriguing concepts, and amazing graphics combine to produce this outstanding title.

I was immediately struck by the beauty of this game. Everything about the characters and the life in the cities is great. I especially like the foley sounds. From swords to clothing, everything is done very well and sounds absolutely convincing.

Three reasons are preventing a stronger rating for Assassin's Creed.

I was put off at first by the controls. The more I play, however, the more fluidly I can move around. Obviously my combat effectiveness also improves with practice, but for now I just press x too often.

The second problem is the save mechanism. Checkpoints work fine during a play session. However, I have no idea when a save point has been reached which I can restore after restarting the Xbox 360. In one case, I went through a long story segment and thought I passed a save point just before continuing with another memory. I was wrong and had to sit through the same story segment again when I returned to the game a few hours later.

The third problem is with the story. The overarching storyline is intriguing. The problem is that I despise the character I am playing. He is arrogant. He speaks too quickly. The real problem, now that I think about it, is that he has a strong personality in the first place. Because the main character exhibits such a strong personality, I cannot project myself onto the hero and make the story my own. I am forced to put up with the way HE reacts to what is going on and what HE says, rather than it being interactive or left to my imagination.
