Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword is a great action game stuffed into a tiny handheld.
One of my favorite games from the original XBox was Ninja Gaiden Black and this is an excellent translation of the franchise onto the DS. Everything is done quite well, except the boss fights. They feature fairly boring tactics and predictable, even pathetic AI. Things get tougher on Head Ninja difficulty over Normal, but that is due mostly to Ryu dealing less damage and taking more from increased numbers of enemies. Maybe later bosses have improved AI at higher difficulties (though I doubt that), but I didn't bother to get past the Vigoor Temple boss on the higher difficulty setting.
The combat is solid, though obviously not as deep as NGB. Unfortunately, Ryu's Dragon Sword is my least favorite weapon. I prefer the Dabilahro (the heavy sword) from NGB, but I realize that's asking too much from a handheld.
Overall it was a fun game and a great addition to any collection. It is a King when compared to any other handheld title. Though not as rewarding as NGB, it is still a fun hack n' slash beat 'em up that really gets you into the combat physically.
