Though an excellent FPS, Halo 3 fails to deliver anything as astounding as its predecessors.
The new hammer weapon was fun. The new vehicles were interesting additions. The graphics were still great. The story was finally wrapped up nicely from Halo 2. All of this is nice, but it makes for nothing more than a decent sequel.
Nothing in this game represents a ground-breaking leap in the console universe like the last two entries in the series. The original Halo proved the FPS genre viable on consoles (for me at least). Halo 2 improved everything about the original, with the only exception being its almost universally detested cliff-hanger ending. Halo 3 stands in stark contrast to these giants by doing, well, not much of anything exceptional.
