Cheap deaths are the bane of my enjoyment. On many occassions, victory or defeat in a fight will seem like pure luck. One time I walk into a room, my party gets slaughtered and I get cornered and beat to death in seconds. Returning to that room after reloading from a save point and I manage to bash every evil critter in the room and my party escapes with nothing more than a scratch.

The setup for the game and its humor are interesting. The Bard is aware of the narrator and they exhibit mild contempt for one another. The Bard also seems aware of the story and makes fun of many fantasy adventure tropes, while the game actually employs those same tactics for the story. Ahh, Irony.

One technical annoyance is from the audio department. Sounds halt immediately, which is jarring (e.g. there is a clear distance at which you hear the water from a rushing river and the sound is either on or off depending on which side of that line you are on).

Ultimately, the fun story, songs, ongoing bickering with the narrator, and general bad attitude of the Bard were just not enough to carry the unbalanced, unfun gameplay that pervades the experience. If I had a code for god mode and instant kills, I would grind through the game just to enjoy the story and the writing.

Note: After writing the last sentence, I checked online and sure enough I found cheats do to exactly what I want. I will return upon furthering my adventure.
