Quite possibly the best beat 'em up I have played, with only the camera and controls keeping it down.

In terms of fighting and combat, God Hand is second only to Ninja Gaiden Black. Both feature fast paced action, difficult enemies, and very satisfying combat. Suggesting that the two have more similarities would be taking it too far, but suffice to say that the combat in both games is intense, presenting players with steep learning curves that reward practice and tenacity.

Unlike NGB, God Hand is over-the-top and wacky in terms of story and enemies. Most of your foes are typical brawler baddies, but even they offer fun and amusement (spanking female opponents never gets old!). Bosses are more colorful and humorous in many cases (gay midget power rangers), but the fights are far from simple or formulaic.

My chief complaints are with the camera and movement controls. There is no independent camera control, so getting hit from the side or behind by an enemy just off-screen is a frequent issue. Double-tapping forward on the left analog stick to run is never 100%, neither is double-tapping back on the right analog stick to dodge. Pick-ups aren't always picked up when you press the button, especially if you are moving. With regard to combat, however, the controls are tight and responsive.

The combat system is fun because you build your own combos and assign your own moves to a limited set of buttons from a pool of moves. Not all the real effects of each move are explained, so some experimenting is encouraged (or reading of combat guides on the internet, as I tend to do). You gain more moves or upgrades along the way and more can be purchased in the store.

As a last word for now, I will say this: I wake up in the morning and determine when I will get to play God Hand during the day. I make time to play the game and I am sad when not playing it. This is one game that should not be missed.
