Despite a few good aspects, this game fails to stay interesting and I hear it's better on PC.
The bullet-time mechanic is the primary focus of this otherwise straightforward third person shooter. Unfortunately, the effect is not entertaining enough to carry the entire game. With tighter controls on the PC, this may have been a solid action game, but on the console, it does not stand the test of time and is not very fun after a short time.
The game probably looked good in 2001, but not so much these days. Everything is fairly bland and the oppressive darkness in every corner doesn't help either.
while the story offers a good hook and a compelling narrative, the rapid deadpan delivery of the protagonist/narrator races over anything that could have evoked an emotional response.
Rockstar's technology used in this game is good for a simple action game, but their claims (at the time) of lots of interactivity are laughable. Most of the interactive objects, like sinks and toilets, are completely pointless, even if they can be turned on/off or flushed.
I quit playing this game because of an irritating platforming section in a dream-like sequence. I was to walk along a thin red line in an otherwise black room and falling off meant restarting the level. This was nearly impossible due to the loose controls, so I shut the game off and I have written off the series.
