This game is one of those "killer apps", it should be reason enough to buy the PSP. It provides a great shooter experience and deals quite well with the PSP control scheme limitations.
Syphon Filter offers a nice, lengthy campaign to keep you occupied for quite a few hours. On top of that, it has some replay value, offering upgraded weapons and skills for completing various goals during missions, like a certain number of headshots. In addition to the great single-player game, Syphon Filter also provides online play, both ad hoc and over the Internet.
The only real problem with Syphon Filter is in the story. If you have not played the previous installments, quite a few of the story elements will make little to no sense. While this doesn't detract from the action or make the game difficult to comprehend, it does reduce the attachment that you will likely develop for the characters. However, if you are familiar with the previous games in the series, this will provide some continuity and familiar ground for you. This is not to say that the story cannot stand on its own, just that many of the elements and character interactions rely on knowledge of the previous games to make the most sense.
That said, do not let the storyline quirks get in the way. This is a great game that is a must play for any PSP owner.
