Pirates! Gold was one of my favorites games on Sega Genesis back in the day. This incarnation lives up to that standard and even exceeds it.

Pirates! puts you in the shoes of a new sea captain in the Caribbean. You are on a mission to avenge your family against an insidious Spaniard. Along the way, you quickly discover an entire world full of side missions, treasure, combat, and adventure on the high seas.

The gameplay in Pirates! is diverse and entertaining. Whether you are sailing the high seas, laying seige to a town, or dancing with the governor's daughter, you will find plenty of variety in this game.

Pirates! is full of swashbuckling good times. You are free to choose your allies and pick your fights. You are free to select missions, engage in trade or piracy, court the ladies, hunt for buried treasure, and a host of other things, all on your own time.

While time is on your side in picking how you want to play, it is also true that you get older in the game. If you intend to complete your quest to avenge your family, you must not delay too long. As you get older, your sword arm gets slower and your reactions are slowed, making fighting and adventuring generally more difficult. This can pose a problem if you are too old when you set off to finally defeat your nemesis.

All in all, Pirates! offers a fun and exciting jaunt in the pirating genre. It is by far the best in this class and is worth your time and money to pick up.
