The latter part of Daxter offers a good story that simply vanishes at the end.
While this was still a fun game, the latter parts offered more slowdown in the frame rate. This by itself isn't such a big deal, since the graphics look great on a handheld in any case. However, couple a slowdown with more timing-oriented jumping puzzles and you start having problems. These are not show-stopping, insurmountable problems, but they are definitely noticeable, will cause at least a death or two, and will be a source of mild annoyance or frustration.
The story is the part that drags my rating down from 7 to 6. Without giving anything away, I will say that the story heats up toward the end, with some good plot points and dialog. After the smoke clears and the action is complete, however, the game comes to a screeching, dare I say crashing, halt. None of the plot points that were developed are resolved and there is practically zero dialog to tie up any loose ends or bring about any sense of conclusion.
As a final point, to myself and all the developers out there: don't speed the credits along so fast! Haven't you ever seen movie credits crawl by? You have the opportunity to read names, listen to the music, maybe see outtakes or simply discuss what you've just seen. Emulate this in your game! The credits in Daxter flew by so fast I thought maybe the developers didn't even want me to see their names. After commiting quite a few hours of my time to something, I would like to at least see the names of the people that made it possible. Give yourself credit, people, you deserve those few seconds to have your name scroll across the screen and be seen by thousands (hopefully millions) of players.
