Blood Omen features good story-telling and some superb voice acting, two reasons that are sufficient to warrant giving this game a look.

Despite the fact that the game came out in 1997 on PC and back in 1996 on Playstation, it still offers some good gaming. While the graphics are dated and some technical aspects are not top notch, the story and story-telling hooked me from the beginning and more than made up for the game's shortcomings.

Kain, the main character, is a dark anti-hero who seems to have nothing but contempt for everyone and everything around him. Kain and the setting really helped to unleash my "bad guy" decision-making ability. Typically in RPGs, you make the "right" decisions, knowing that you probably get the best outcome. In Blood Omen, however, I felt free, even compelled, to make the selfish, cruel decisions. This was quite liberating and lead to some great fun.

The voice-acting, particulary Kain, really carried the story for me. I loved seeing the cutscenes and listening to Kain describe things, but always adding a personal touch, never abstracting himself or his attitude from the description.

Blood Omen may be dated in some ways and may not offer anything particularly new or innovative, but I really liked the dark side of things and seeing (and hearing) everything through the jaded eye of Nosgoth's most hated vampire.
